About Pinckney

Located 15 miles from the juncture of Interstate 96 and US-23, Pinckney, Michigan is an upscale, rural community located about 60 miles from Detroit and about 20 miles from Ann Arbor. Still technically a village after 175 years of existence, Pinckney – relatively tiny at 1.66 square miles – is part of Putnam Township and celebrates small-town living while remaining within shouting distance of metropolitan hotspot, Ann Arbor.

Because of its rural nature, Pinckney, as well as its immediate neighbors Putnam and Hamburg, gives you a wide variety of housing stock from which to choose. Single-family dwellings with 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2 or 2.5 bathrooms built on generous portions of land are scattered throughout the region. You’ll also find plenty of upscale homes to choose from; how about a 5,800 square foot home with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and your own beach? You can get sprawling ranches, you can find colonials on acres of land, you can own lakehouses with docks; the possibilities are numerous.

The separation of houses does not mean there’s no sense of community in the region. Indeed, the downtown, billing itself as “the center of it all” has the quaint features one can expect from a downtown, including independent merchants housed inside old two-story buildings. Community spirit is also evident in the people, many of whom donate their time and energy as volunteers for the farmers’ market, movies in the park, and the holiday festival.

Where Pinckney truly excels is its energy. It’s not city, hustle/bustle energy; it’s the energy of the outdoors. Enjoy nature trails, horseback riding, biking, and cross-county skiing. The delightfully-named and numerous lakes of Pinckney (Crooked Lake, Blind Lake) provide ample opportunities for swimming, boating, and fishing. Mere minutes from Pinckney proper is Huron Meadows Metro Park, which claims you can find the “up north” feeling golfing, fishing, or just walking somewhere in the 1,540 acres of park. A mere 30 minutes from Pinckney is Kensington Metropark, a jewel of southeastern Michigan. There’s a golf course, and it doubles as a cross-country skiing course in the winter. White-tailed deer run throughout the park; perhaps you’ll spot one as you bike the 8.5 miles of trails. Play disc golf, and go on a hayride in the summer or sleigh ride in the winter. There’s ice skating, paddleboarding, sledding, swimming, caneoing, and many other possibilities.

Pinckney calls itself a place where “life should be more fun.” Friendly people, many recreational opportunities, and a diverse array of houses are all terrific reasons you may want to call Pinckney home.
