About White Lake

For fans of all four of nature’s seasons, White Lake, Michigan is calling for you. Enjoy autumn? The rural, almost country-like, feel of White Lake is partially thanks to the township’s abundance of trees, all of which glow brilliant reds and yellows in the fall. Love winter? Alpine Valley Ski Resort is within White Lake, providing visitors access to 25 ski slopes for downhill action and four terrain parks for cross-country fun. If spring’s your thing, enjoy nature’s show as millions of flowers and plants explode in bloom as the weather warms. And for summer fun, enjoy swimming and boating in Pontiac Lake before watching the sunset at any one of hundreds of scenic viewpoints.

Located in the northwestern corner of metro Detroit’s spread, White Lake Township is 37 square miles of trees, lakes, homes, and some commercial development. Mostly rural, the community has an “Up North” feel thanks to the lake living and numerous outdoor recreation options. That rural nature means the homes for sale are always varied: There are old homes that were likely some of the first in the area from the 1930s, and there are brand new homes built for the discerning buyer who wants peace but also the creature comforts of a new home that might exist in a more urban location. There are lake houses with boat launches, and houses on acres of property for farming or horseback riding. Sprawling ranch? Sure. Contemporary colonial? Absolutely. Six bedrooms? White Lake has those. Something smaller for empty nesters? There are those, too.

Whatever kind of home you choose, you can be certain the amenities of the region are nearby. In addition to some large chain stores located within White Lake, proximity to M-59 assures you easy access to nearby Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, the Palace of Auburn Hills, and Pontiac. Downtown Detroit is less than an hour’s drive.

But make no mistake: White Lake is predominantly rural. It’s quiet, but that doesn’t mean it’s uninteresting. In addition to Alpine Valley, there are the nearby Highland State Recreation Area and Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area. Both offer camping, sites for horseback riding, biking and snowmobiling trails, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, picnic shelters, swimming holes, and areas designated for viewing wildlife. The township also maintains four other parks within its borders. There are two golf courses, as well as a private equestrian farm. Seniors can enjoy programming at the Dublin Senior Center. And when they’re done playing, children will attend school within one of five nearby districts (White Lake has no specific school district).

White Lake Township would love your attention as a rural yet, in its own way, a thoroughly modern place to live. It’s safe (recently named one of the Top Five Safest Large Communities in Michigan by the FBI), it’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, it’s peaceful, and it awaits your visit.
