Event Details: This documentary, fourth in the Peoples of India series under the banner of Arifa Javed Films, tells a personal story of Indian Christians in America. It focuses on their identity emerging from a unique combination of race, religion, and culture that makes them stand out both among the other Indian immigrants in the U.S. as well as among other Christian Americans. A film for a global audience, promoting an understanding in the dynamics of race religion and culture. There will be a question-and-answer session with Dr. Javed after the screening.

Event Details: ROCHESTER HILLS, MI. In its last concert of the regular season, the Rochester Community Concert Band, conducted by Paul F. DeRubeis, will present ‘From Stage to Screen’ on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. in Varner Hall on the campus of Oakland University. Parking for Varner Hall can be found on the west side of the building, lot P36, 149 Library Drive, Rochester Hills, MI 48309. Handicapped parking is available on the north end of the lot, with drop-off access to the lobby of the hall via the circle drive and also on the west side of lot P26. The concert is open to the public and admission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated. Featured at the concert will be Dr. Jeffrey Heisler, Professor of Saxophone and Chair of the Music Department at Oakland University performing Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia on My Mind” arranged by Russell Peterson. We also welcome to the podium RCCB member and conductor of the Macomb Area Community Band, Alex Floury who will conduct “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt, arranged by Ted Ricketts. Other selections to be performed include: “Selections from Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins” by Richard and Robert Sherman, “Highlights from The Sound of Music” by Rodgers and Hammerstein II, “Mambo” and “Somewhere” from West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein , “Run Free from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” by Hans Zimmer, “Symphonic Suite from Star Trek” arranged by Jay Bocook, “The March from 1941” and “Star Wars-The Marches” by John Williams.
